Can Toothpaste Dry Acne?

One of the most common and most effective home remedies to treat acne is applying fresh mint juice into the acne spots before going to bed and leaving it there overnight. Many people have tried this out, and surprisingly, they are surprised as well that their acne dries out overnight. There are many other practical home remedies that could treat acne. You do not have to make a tedious search to find a good potential cure for the skin disorder. The answer might be right in your bathroom—toothpaste.

Can toothpaste dry acne? For the longest time, there have been talks and speculation about the ability of toothpaste to dry out and eventually get rid of acne problems in all ages. Are there basis for many people to claim that indeed, the teeth-cleaning Products could help eliminate the skin problem? If so, why are some dermatologists and doctors advising against putting toothpaste into the face to remove acne?

There is logic in connecting the fresh mint remedy for acne and toothpaste application to get rid of acne. Studies have found that it is the properties of mint ingredients in both that are responsible for drying out even the erupting skin acne. Toothpaste has the basic mint in its base formula, which is said to be responsible for drying out the skin problem. The result could be observable in just a few hours, or overnight. However, there are precautions and there are recommended right and appropriate procedures to make doing so really work.

When aiming to try out doing so, select a good toothpaste brand. Not all toothpaste Products could yield the same anti-acne results. Avoid those in gel forms. Unlike fresh mint juice that could be left overnight after applied to the acne spots, toothpaste applied to acne should not be left for more than 30 minutes. Doing so may overdo the drying property and may result to over-drying and worse, itchiness. It should also be noted that toothpaste should not be applied to skin, but only to the acne spots. This is because the other parts of the skin may get irritated by toothpaste. Doing so could also result to inflammation and redness.

When using toothpaste to treat acne, there is also a need to remember that doing so does not always work. As always, this remedy may be effective to other people but not to you. People have different skin types, plus, acne levels also differ.

To use toothpaste for acne treatment, apply toothpaste, not in gel form, to the skin affected by acne. Leave it there for about 10 minutes to 15 minutes and wash off. Remember not to put toothpaste on other skin parts as doing so may dry out and irritate the skin not affected by acne. After washing off, you may also apply some rubbing alcohol to the affected skin areas before going to bed to make sure the effect will be evident when you get up in the morning.
