I have heard that all the Over the counter medications for kids are not sold any more. They say, there medicines just suppress cold with sedatives. Does anyone know ?

As far as I know they are still on the shelves. Physicians are just not recommending their use. They are trying to steer away from the suppression method. I know with my granddaughter, they prescribed her a nebulizer to use instead.

I don't think it was all of them, just specific brands that contained a certain drug ( I cant remember which ones). Others are still availabe in some places. I know where I live you can no longer buy the cold remedies that are for children under 4. You can still purchase basic infant tylenol but not the ones that had any other drugs in them . The problem was there were an increasing number of children being dosed improperly and suffering serious problems and even death because of it. Since a cold is a virus and therefore the medication doesn't cure it, just improves the symptoms, they felt it wasnt worth the risk.

I have heard also that there was a,problem with overdoses on these medications.People give thier children the dose as specified by age instead of weight. Also in the suppresion method, children are not coghing up the stuff in their lungs and getting pnemonia.I still see some on the shelves but I wonder what the difference is?Also people were using the ephedrine based meds to manufacture methamphetamines.

Its like I siad before people are judging by age instead of weight. My daughter is 6 and weighs only 37 lbs.If I was to dose her by age instead of weight I would give her more than double what she needs.Pretty scary huh?

I think ill stick to runny noses and coughs as opposed to ER visit for giving her too much and harming her.Vicks on her chest at night has seemed to break up the congestion and make her sleep better.
