As I was looking for the various treatments available for acne, one simple home remedy I came accross was get good exposure to sunlight. The claim is that sun actually kills the bacteria, and dries up the sebum oil that produces acne. This is a common home treatment for acne that doesn't cost anything.
Does anyone have any effect with this method. |

I've read that this is a temporary and kind of faux fix. Do you really want to swap acne for freckles, sun damage, and skin cancer? Sounds extreme, but it's true.
I've also read that certain types of toothpaste can dry up pimples, and this is not a myth. |

Going out in the sun is essential at times and it is not all harm that it causes. Being in the sun is essential to kill bacteria. Being in the sun gives us Vitamin D which is useful. Go out i the sun be all means. As for acne, the more you worry about it the more it will chase you. Just let it be and relax.

Right. What I was saying is one should not tan for hours in hopes of curing it. I am a pale-skinned redhead, and so a sun solution would be absolutely out of the question for me.
I am also aware of the Vitamin D thing, so a little exposure without sunblock is a good thing. Just don't overdo it. I fortunately do not suffer from acne anymore (finally!), but this has only come about in the past couple of months, so hopefully it sticks. I have suffered from a blemish or three since, but overall I am loving it. And yes, I gave up overly stressing my acne years ago, when I learned it was a losing battle for me. I never wanted to spend like, 2 hours a day washing my face. That's just superficially nuts. Of course it is still always slightly depressing to suffer from acne, even when you "let it go". |

Sun, in limitation is always good. Just remember to use your sunscreen for damage protection. Tanning is not a good idea at all. Always, use a light moisturizer. I always suggest Proactive.

I've been laying in a tanning bed to cure my acne on my back. It's been working 100%
Between that and the vegetarian diet, I'm on my way to being zit free. |

Tanning helps to kill bacteria, in fact "phototherapy" uses UV light for acne treatments. That's actually a legitimate, medical treatment. As for the tanning bed, I'll admit, I've used it before to help my acne. But in truth, it just makes you feel better because your skin is darker and the acne is concealed. So that result fades within a month and it seems sort of futile to spend $50 on a result that just keeps going away!

Even I always wondered that too.. And think it’s true; exposure to sunlight can cure acne. It enhances the vitamin D in the body, which is good for your skin. When the rays of the sun reach the skin, 'a reaction takes place that enables skin cells to produce vitamin D'.
