Acne: Prevent Summer Breakouts

tagged , , , , and

With summer unofficially here, we all start to venture outside more often to enjoy the warmth of the Sun. Unfortunately all the fun and activity increases the risk for developing acne, and that can bring a downer on the summer fun.

The mixture of rising summer temperatures and the increase in frequent outdoor activities increases the body’s sweating and exposure to dust, dirt, bugs, etc. You may not realize you skin can become that dirty, especially when it is not visible, but many things are carried on the air. With the two factor at play, increase in sweating, and the dust and dirt on your face, it creates a perfect mixture for clogging pores and increasing breakouts.

Even with the ideal environment for breakouts, there are things you can do to help prevent these summer breakouts so you can enjoy the summer sun. It is good idea to start washing of you face to 3 to 4 times a day, remembering to pat dry and use a moisturizer that has sunscreen.

Another good idea is to keep yourself hydrated, this time of year you need more water in you system so drink lots of it. Vitamin C enriched drinks and other cooling beverages (little to no sugar added) are also good for you and you skin as well.

Once you’ve been outside for a while, it is also a good idea to change you clothes and under garments if you have been sweating. Even taking an extra shower if you have the time will help with the prevention of body acne.

Finally you must remember to use an oil-free sunscreen with a high spf. A tan is nice but the sun damages you skin and pores, aging it and causing breakouts and even worse skin diseases such as cancer. It is good to wear a hat to protect you face from the sun as well but remember that sweating will make the interior of the hat dirty so be sure to clean it.

Following these steps will help ensure you have fewer breakouts from the summer heat. So go enjoy the summer and have fun.
